The Rocket Mortgage financial services brand has renewed its title sponsorship deal with the PGA Tour for the Detroit-based event until 2027.

The tournament, which has a US$7.5 million prize purse and was added to the premier US-based golf tour in 2019, will continue to be known as the Rocket Mortgage Classic for the duration of the contract.

The annual event at Detroit Golf Club has proven to be a well-regarded event by the PGA Tour, winning its Fair Way Award for community initiatives and use of local businesses.

Rocket Mortgage has been an official partner of the PGA Tour since 2014, and will continue its wide-ranging partnership with the PGA Tour and PGA Champions Tour through this new deal.

The extension sees the brand continue its Changing the Course initiative, which aims to tackle the digital divide in Detroit by providing technology, internet access and digital literacy for communities around the city.

In 2020, the Rocket Mortgage Classic raised more than US$2.7 million for charitable causes, up from US$1.2 million it brought in for the charity in the previous year.

DETROIT The Rocket Mortgage Classic is sticking around as both the PGA TOUR and Rocket Mortgage announced an extension of the title sponsorship for the event through 2027.

The announcement was made on Monday morning at the Detroit Golf Club, the annual home of the RMC since its first tournament in 2019. PGA Tour pros Bryson DeChambeau and Rickie Fowler were on hand for the announcement, along with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, Rocket Mortgage CEO Jay Farner, RMC executive director Jason Langwell and LPGA pro Lexi Thompson.

I think thats a huge deal for us, DeChambeau said. Whenever were supporting certain types of charities and whatnot, we want to hear that about a tournament. We want to see what theyre doing for their community. Thats what these Tour stops are about, raising money and providing for the charities around the community. I think thats what kind of brings us here.

The golf course is an unbelievable test of golf, DeChambeau said. Personally, in my experience, it is a lot of fun to play. 2020 was special to me and I think that as time goes on, this will continue to be improved and made a better golf course for us all.

For Jason Langwell, the chance to continue to grow the RMC and its surrounding events and initiatives is his main priority.

Rocket Mortgage Classic: Latest Betting Odds Favorites And Sleeper Picks

Just like three-time Travelers champion Bubba Watson on the back nine last Sunday, our picks burned out quickly and could not keep up.

A track meet turned into a war of attrition in Cromwell, Conn., as Harris English and Kramer Hickok battled it out in a grueling eight-hole playoff. Ultimately the experienced English earned his second win on Tour this year after finally separating himself with a birdie.

As for the picks, we began looking like we would continue the momentum of the past few weeks. After promising starts, though, Kevin Streelman missed the cut and both Mackenzie Hughes and Scottie Scheffler failed to impress on the weekend.

We now head back to where Bryson DeChambeaus big drives finally broke through last year the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Only four players in the world top 25 will be joining DeChambeau at Detroit Golf Club and going low will be vital for success. The only two winners at Detroit GC have finished at 25 and 23 under-par, respectively. The Donald Ross design is very level and features Poa greens for a 7,370-yard, par-72 layout.

According to William Hill, defending champion DeChambeau is the massive favorite at 15-2, even after not playing up to his standards in recent weeks. Next up, is Patrick Reed after recent solid finishes at 14-1. To follow, is Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and Webb Simpson at 18-1. To close out the notables is upstart Joaquin Niemann at 22-1.

Detroit’s Rocket Mortgage Classic Has Staying Power Extension Deal Reached

Detroit The Rocket has no plans to fizzle anytime soon.

The PGA Tour, Rocket Companies and Detroit Golf Club members have reached agreement on an extension of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation who isn’t authorized to speak publicly ahead of Monday’s expected official announcement.

The new deal is expected to run through 2026 with an option for 2027.

The 2022 RMC, set for July 28-31, will be the fourth in the tournament’s run. The Tour determines event dates annually. The original contract between the PGA Tour and Detroit Golf Club called for a four-year deal.

Detroit Golf Club’s membership voted on the extension this week, and while results haven’t been announced and there were dissenters who aren’t keen on the course’s closure for the lead-up, tournament and followup weeks, the decision has long been a foregone conclusion for a club that has benefited greatly from the exposure the tournament has brought, most notably a rise in members.

Rocket Companies sent out a news advisory at noon Friday for a press conference at DGC on Monday. Rocket ambassadors Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler and Lexi Thompson will attend the press conference, held the same day as the Rocket’s Fall Classic, held for tournament sponsors and supporters.

RMC champions have included Nate Lashley, and, this past year, Cam Davis in a playoff.

Nate Lashley won the emotional 2019 tournament debut in Detroit.

The event will focus on raising funds to support the Changing the Course initiative which was launched in 2020 due to the need for greater and more equitable digital connectivity in Americas least connected major city. More information:

The field of 156 players this week will be taking on a 7,334-yard, par-72 layout that is a composite of the propertys North and South courses.

The bentgrass/poa annua greens arent as severely tea cup shaped as other Ross designs like Pinehurst No. 2, but they are still one of the coursess main defenses.

The fairways and rough are bentgrass/poa mixed with bluegrass.

According to PGA Tour Shotlink data, DGC is the flattest course on the schedule.

It is also one of the easiest.

Both tournament editions have been runaway victories as Nate Lashley reached 25-under to win by six in 2019 and Bryson DeChambeau was 23-under to win by three in 2020.

Last year played firm and fast, but wide fairways still made it easy for players to pick DGC apart. Fifty-two players posted 10-under or better and the 36-hole cut line was 4-under.

Softer conditions look imminent this time. Rain is in the forecast for each of the practice round days and perhaps during the tournament.

That will help lower the scores since the field strength isnt doing a lot on its own. Only two top-10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are teeing it up this week, and one is the defending champ, No. 6 DeChambeau.

The Open Championship is in two weeks, so this is where most big names are shutting it down before heading overseas.

Nonetheless, the Rocket Mortgage Classic will offer a servicable appetizer at a classic gem of a course in the Midwest.
